Source abstract

We study prolongation of the conformal embedding equations. Let (M,g)(\mathscr{M}, g) be a C∞C^{\infty} Riemannian manifold of dimension n≥3n \geq 3 and (M~,g~)(\tilde{\mathscr{M}}, \tilde{g}) be a C∞C^{\infty} Riemannian manifold of dimension n+dn + d, d<12n(n−1)d <\frac{1}{2}n(n-1). Suppose that f:M→M~f : \mathscr{M} \to \tilde{\mathscr{M}} is a conformal immersion with conformal factor vv. If the conformal 1-nullity off at a point P∈MP \in \mathscr{M} does not exceed n−2n - 2, we prove that the system of conformal embedding equations admits a prolongation to a system of nonlinear partial differential equations of second order which is elliptic at the solution (f,v)(f, v). In particular, if (M,g)(\mathscr{M}, g) and (M~,g~)(\tilde{\mathscr{M}}, \tilde{g}) are analytic and ff and vv are of differentiability class C2C^{2} then ff and vv are analytic on a neighborhood of PP in M\mathscr{M}.
