Source abstract

For a graph HH, the suspension H^\widehat H of HH is a graph obtained from HH by joining a new vertex to every vertex of HH. The generalized Turán number ex(n,K3,H^)\textrm{ex}(n,K_3,\widehat H) is the maximum number of triangles in an nn-vertex H^\widehat H-free graph. For fixed k≥4k \ge 4, Mubayi and Mukherjee conjectured that ex(n,K3,P^k)=⌊k−22⌋n28+o(n2), \textrm{ex}(n,K_3,\widehat P_k) =\left\lfloor\frac{k-2}{2}\right\rfloor\frac{n^2}{8}+o(n^2), as n→∞n \to \infty, where PkP_k is the path on kk vertices. They verified the conjecture for k=4,5,6k=4,5,6. In this paper, we determine the asymptotic value of ex(n,K3,P^k)\textrm{ex}(n,K_3,\widehat P_k) for every k≥4k\ge 4 via a unified approach and thus prove the conjecture of Mubayi and Mukherjee.
