Source abstract

Let F\text{F} be a non-archimedean local field of characteristic zero with residual characteristic pp. In this paper, we study local converse theorems for kk-middle supercuspidal representations of GL(kn,F)\text{GL}(kn, \text{F}) via explicit computations of twisted gamma factors on the Galois side, under the assumptions p∤knp \nmid kn and qF>(k−1)2q_{\text{F}}>(k-1)^2. Our results provide further evidence for a conjecture of the third-named author and Stevens on depth bounds for the twisting representations in the local converse theorem. For odd k≥3k \ge 3, we obtain infinitely many families of supercuspidal representations for which the bound ⌊kn2⌋\left\lfloor \frac{kn}{2} \right\rfloor in the local converse theorem is not sharp.
