Source abstract

This study was motivated by the low ability of VIII grade students of SMPN 1 Batusangkar in understanding mathematical concepts. The problem arises because of the limited learning resources that do not provide opportunities for students to build understanding through direct learning experiences. The purpose of this study was to develop a valid, practical, and effective Discovery Learning-based Learner Worksheet (LKPD) to improve students' concept understanding in Statistics material. This research is a Research and Development (R&D) research using the 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate-without the dissemination stage). The instruments used consisted of validation sheets, practicality questionnaires, and concept understanding tests. The data analysis technique used the percentage formula for validity and practicality, while the effectiveness was measured using the N-gain formula. The results showed that the developed Discovery Learning-based LKPD was valid, practical, and effective. The average validation score was 85.33%, and the average student questionnaire score was 84.56%. This LKPD is very effective with an N-gain value of 83% (high category), which shows a significant increase in students' understanding of mathematical concepts. Therefore, this Discovery Learning-based LKPD is suitable for use as teaching material to improve the understanding of grade VIII students on Statistics material.
