Source abstract

Abstract The first period gave us Aristotle and Euclid, Plato and Pythagoras, Zeno and Archimedes; irrational numbers, paradoxes of motion, mathematical proofs, axioms of geometry, syllogistic logic-indeed, it furnishes the groundwork for all that was to follow. This period has been intensively studied, and its contours are well known.
