Source abstract

Retrial queues refer to a class of stochastic queueing models in which customers finding the server busy leave the service area and retry for service after a random period of time. This paper studies retrial queues of both M/M/1 and M/G/1 types, with particular emphasis on the joint distribution of the server state and the number of customers in the orbit. For the M/M/1 retrial queue, the joint stationary distribution of the server state and the orbit size is obtained, and the corresponding probability generating functions are derived. Several performance measures are also discussed.
