Source abstract

Synopsis We consider the Dirichlet problem for harmonic maps from the disc D 2 into the sphere S 2 , with prescribed boundary values γ:∂ D 2 →S 2 , and we prove that if γ is not a rational function, one can find infinitely many nonhomotopic harmonic maps which agree with γon ∂D 2 .
