SARS-CoV-2 – the coronavirus that causes Covid – is the third from its virus family to cause devastating pandemics or outbreaks in the last 20 years. First, there was the original SARS in 2002, and then MERS in 2012. As Fauci and others stress, even worse coronaviruses could spill over to humans, and it's a feature of these viruses that they allow re-infections.
