Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas penggunaan media counting box terhadap keterlibatan siswa dan hasil belajar matematika siswa kelas I SD. Pendekatan kuantitatif digunakan dengan desain pre-eksperimental one group pretest-posttest design, melibatkan 25 siswa kelas I SD. Uji normalitas Kolmogorov-Smirnov menghasilkan nilai signifikansi 0,210 (p > 0,05). Rata-rata nilai pretest adalah 58,4 dan posttest 88,2. Analisis N-Gain menghasilkan nilai rata-rata 0,72 berkategori Tinggi. Keterlibatan siswa mencapai rata-rata 88,6% (Sangat Tinggi) yang mencakup dimensi perilaku (92%), emosional (86%), dan kognitif (88%). Media counting box efektif mengubah konsep abstrak berhitung menjadi pengalaman manipulatif konkret yang sesuai tahap perkembangan kognitif operasional konkret siswa kelas I SD. abstract This study aims to examine the effectiveness of counting box media on student engagement and mathematics learning outcomes in Grade I elementary school. A quantitative approach was employed using a pre-experimental one group pretest-posttest design with 25 Grade I students as research subjects. Data were collected through pretest and posttest instruments, student engagement observation sheets, and questionnaires. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test yielded a significance value of 0.210 (p > 0.05), confirming normally distributed data. The mean pretest score was 58.4, which increased to 88.2 on the posttest. N-Gain analysis produced a mean score of 0.72, classified as High, indicating significant improvement in learning outcomes. Student engagement reached an average of 88.6% (Very High), comprising behavioral engagement (92%), emotional engagement (86%), and cognitive engagement (88%). These findings demonstrate that counting box media is effective in transforming abstract arithmetic concepts into concrete manipulative experiences aligned with the operational concrete cognitive development stage of Grade I students.
