Counterexamples to Two Conjectures on Tangles in Matroid Minors

Source abstract
We give counterexamples to two conjectures of Brettell, Jowett, Oxley, Semple, and Whittle concerning tangles in matroid minors. We construct a matroid with a tangle of order seven. For each , let denote its order- truncation. No proper minor of admits, for every such , a tangle of order whose breadth equals that of , and is not weakly -connected. We also construct a matroid with a tangle of order four and breadth six, but no internally -connected minor of admits a tangle of order four.
