Source abstract

We investigate the stability of the 22-rank in the cyclotomic Z2\mathbb{Z}_2-extension of real biquadratic number fields. We determine several families of real biquadratic fields FF for which the ranks of the 22-class group A(F)A(F) and the associated 22-Iwasawa module A∞(F)A_\infty(F) are both equal to 33. More precisely, we provide a complete classification of all fields F=Q(q,d),F=\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{q},\sqrt{d}), where q≡3(mod4)q\equiv 3\pmod{4} is a prime number and dd is an odd positive square-free integer, and all fields F=Q(2q,d),F=\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{2q},\sqrt{d}), where q≡3(mod4)q\equiv 3\pmod{4} is a prime number and d≡1(mod4)d\equiv 1\pmod{4} is a positive square-free integer, for which rank⁡(A(F))=rank⁡(A∞(F))=3. \operatorname{rank}(A(F))=\operatorname{rank}(A_\infty(F))=3.
