Obstructions to deforming space curves lying on a complete intersection of quadrics

Source abstract
Let be a smooth complete intersection of quadrics containing a line , where , and set , where . We study the deformations of smooth curves and their obstructions. The linear system defines a birational morphism that contracts to a point and realizes an unprojection in the sense of Papadakis--Reid. When , the surface is a surface and is a -curve. We prove that the complementary open surface admits first-order infinitesimal deformations in that are obstructed at the second order. Using these obstructions, we show that, for every sufficiently large with , there exists a generically non-reduced irreducible component of the Hilbert scheme of smooth connected curves in . Its general member lies on a complete intersection of three quadrics, satisfies , and has . In contrast, when , we prove that, for every sufficiently large with , the corresponding family of curves in gives rise to a generically smooth irreducible component of .
