Math‐Corrected Enzyme Ratios: Descriptors of Allocation and Tools for Comparability—Not Proof of Limitation

This article responds to Mori (2025), who noted that fixing the mathematical problem in enzyme ratios does not prove they indicate nutrient limitation. I agree: correcting the calculation removes a bias but does not validate ecoenzymatic ratios as direct tests of microbial nutrient needs. Still, when used carefully, these ratios are valuable for comparing data across studies and for exploring how microbes invest in enzymes that drive soil carbon and nutrient cycling.
