Source abstract

This study developed and evaluated an integrative pedagogical strategy aligned with the Next Generation Mathematics Standards to enhance digital citizenship awareness and explore its perceived relationship with student Quality of Life (QoL) among middle school learners. Employing a mixed-methods research design, the intervention was evaluated by N = 15 mathematics education experts and practitioners through a structured teacher guide, model lesson implementations, and expert review rubrics. Subsequently, a one-group quasi-experimental pre/post-assessment was conducted with N = 35 first-intermediate female students in the Asir region of Saudi Arabia across 20 instructional sessions over a four-week period. Empirical findings revealed strong expert and practitioner consensus (82.84% overall agreement) regarding the strategy's validity, structural coherence, and alignment with modern mathematical standards and digital ethics frameworks. Statistically significant gains (p < 0.05) with exceptionally large effect sizes (eta^2 = 0.66 to 0.71) were observed across all dimensions of student digital citizenship following the intervention. Furthermore, educator evaluations indicated robust strategic alignment with student QoL in academic (80.15%) and familial (71.67%) domains, whereas psychological (37.36%), social (47.92%), and public health (32.30%) dimensions demonstrated lower convergence. The results underscore the imperative of embedding digital ethics within core STEM curricula and offer structural recommendations for systemic professional development, holistic student well-being policies, and curriculum reform in line with Saudi Vision 2030 goals.
