The crystal structure of 1-[(4-methylphenyl)sulfonyl]-2-phenylazetidine, C 16 H 17 NO 2 S, commonly referred to as 2-phenyl- N -tosylazetidine, is reported. There are three close contacts stabilizing the supramolecular structure. Two of the close contacts are between one of the O atoms on the sulfonamide moiety and two neighboring C—H bonds from the tolyl ring. The third close contact is between the H—C bond of the azetidine and a C atom on the phenyl ring. Distances between the tolyl rings are greater than the standard distance of 5 Å for π-stacking.
