ABSTRACT The gist of the present work is to investigate the influences of interfacial imperfection as well as planar and non‐planar boundaries on the displacement components (DCs) of Rayleigh‐type wave (RTW) propagating in pre‐stressed hyperelastic layered structure. To be specific, the layered structure takes into account an imperfectly bonded dissimilar pre‐stressed nearly incompressible elastic layer (PSNIEL) to a pre‐stressed nearly incompressible elastic half‐space (PSNIEHS) with non‐planar boundaries at the free surface and the interface. The mathematical techniques that are applied to obtain the expressions of DCs for the considered geometrical structure feature variable separable method, Taylor's series expansion along with the substitution method. As an outgrowth of the present study, the dispersion relation of RTW is obtained for the modeled imperfectly bonded pre‐stressed hyperelastic layered structure in the absence of non‐planar boundaries. The obtained dispersion relation is further reduced to special cases and validated with the existing results in the literature. The impacts of associated affecting parameters, viz., interfacial imperfect parameters, hydrostatic stresses, non‐planar boundaries, wave number and depth of the medium from the free surface, on DCs and wave speed of RTW are delineated graphically by means of numerical simulation. It is pointed out that the interfacial imperfection as well as non‐planar boundary surface and interface have profound influence in reducing the DCs of RTW, and the interfacial imperfection plays significant role in decreasing the wave speed of RTW. The computational results of this study may be useful in the design of various structures related to civil, mechanical, and off‐shore.
