Abstract The first question considered is whether a series of projections (such as X-ray shadowgraphs) of a three-dimensional object can be Used to infer unambiguously the structure of the object, it is shown that this is the case. Secondly, the relations between the statistics of a statistically isotropic object and the statistics of its projection are considered.
