Instability in Critical State Theories of Granular Flow

Source abstract
Conditions characterizing the occurrence of instability in the partial differential equations arising in critical state theories for granular flow are derived. This continues earlier work studying ill-posedness in these equations. Implications of the stability results for the formation of shear bands are discussed.
