The article examines the fundamental requirements imposed on mathematical models and considers the main characteristics and stages of the mathematical modeling process. Particular attention is paid to the role of mathematical models in representing real-world objects, processes, and phenomena through mathematical relationships and quantitative dependencies. The study discusses such essential requirements as adequacy, accuracy, consistency, reliability, simplicity, flexibility, and practical applicability of a mathematical model. The article also highlights the importance of selecting an appropriate modeling approach depending on the purpose of the research and the characteristics of the object under investigation. The concepts of physical modeling, micromodeling, and macromodeling are considered as important approaches to the study of complex systems at different levels. The paper emphasizes that a well-constructed mathematical model should not only adequately reflect the essential properties of the modeled object but also provide opportunities for analysis, prediction, optimization, and decision-making. The presented theoretical considerations can be useful for researchers, teachers, students, and specialists involved in mathematical modeling and the application of mathematical methods in various scientific and practical fields.
