Abstract We utilize the concentration of measure phenomenon to study the double limit (large- N and continuum) of the O ( N ) principal chiral model where the large- N limit is performed before the continuum one. The partition function in this double limit is demonstrated to be that of a free massive theory. The result depends crucially on the order in which the limits are taken.
