Principles of Effective Leadership in a Digital Era

Abstract The authors are living in the digital age of 21. The century is a period when traditional practices are replaced by modern practices along with adaptation to digital technologies. In particular, it has brought many innovations and changes to the digitalized business world. With the increasingly competitive environment today, it has become mandatory beyond choice for organizations to use digital technologies from the planning stage of the work to the evaluation stage. Management and managers have also been affected by the differentiation of the digitalized business world, and the concept of “digital leadership” has started to mature by emerging. Digital leadership can be defined as a leader who uses digital technologies very well, who can influence and motivate his followers in digital environments, who can also use digital environments to achieve organizational strategies, as well as interact with other forms of leadership in a way that can be handled entirely on his principles. A digital leader is a leader who distinguishes the organization from others or enables it to stand out with the digital innovations it makes by bringing the concept of vision to the forefront of organizations. In this context, effective leadership characteristics in the digital age will be discussed, along with the concept of “digital leadership” in the study. In this study, digital leadership characteristics and organizational importance will be revealed through a literature review. Thus, it will be emphasized that in addition to digitalization, it is important to manage digitalized organizations well to ensure sustainability.
