Summary High temperature thermal gradient interaction chromatography (HT‐TGIC) was recently developed to characterize chemical composition distribution (CCD) of ethylene/1‐olefin copolymers based on the interaction between polymer chains and graphitic surface. In this work, a mathematical model of HT‐TGIC was developed based on the population balance in a non‐equilibrium, multi‐stage adsorption/desorption process. Results from the proposed model were found to be in a good agreement with the experimental results of blends over various operating conditions.
