Source abstract

For any two integers d,r⩾1d,r \geqslant 1, we show that there exists an edge ideal I(G)I(G) such that reg(R/I(G)){\rm reg}\left(R/I(G)\right), the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of R/I(G)R/I(G), is rr, and deg⁡hR/I(G)(t)\deg h_{R/I(G)}(t), the degree of the hh-polynomial of R/I(G)R/I(G), is dd. Additionally, if GG is a graph on nn vertices, we show that reg(R/I(G))+deg⁡hR/I(G)(t)⩽n{\rm reg}\left(R/I(G)\right) + \deg h_{R/I(G)}(t) \leqslant n.
