Source abstract

We explore pedal curves (a special case of a geometric locus) of a the plane curve called a bicorn. This curve has two cusps, which induce the existence of singularities of the pedal. We study the singularities of the pedals in each case. For this various presentations are used for the curves, parametric and symbolic presentations. Their properties and influence on the quality of the output is briefly discussed. In particular, the determination of points of self?intersection requires a parametric presentation; in this case a rational parametrization is the most efficient. Work is performed in an environment involving Dynamic Geometry, automated commands and a Computer Algebra System. Finally we describe a connection between our plane curves and some art, making the topic here suitable for STEAM education.
