Abstract This paper investigates three types of semi-rational rogue wave (RW) solutions to the two-component long-wave-short-wave resonance interaction (LS-RI) equations, utilizing the bilinear Kadomtsev–Petviashvili (KP) hierarchy reduction method. These solutions consist of RWs, breathers, and dark solitons, where the RW components are classified as bounded RWs, mixed bounded RWs, and degradable bounded RWs, corresponding respectively to one non-imaginary simple root (N-ISR), two distinct N-ISRs, and one non-imaginary double root of the algebraic equation arising from the KP dimension reduction process. Furthermore, the dynamical behaviors of these three types of SR RW solutions are analyzed, and the structures of the corresponding mixed-wave states are illustrated graphically.
