-trivial Galois cohomology classes and cohomological -dimension
Charles De Clercq
Source abstract
Given a prime , a field of characteristic different from and a finite -primary Galois module , a Galois cohomology class in is called -trivial if it can be connected to by a class defined over an open subscheme of the projective line. All classes of are -trivial if has cohomological -dimension at most , by the Bloch-Kato conjecture. We show that this bound is sharp: working over fields of iterated Laurent series, we produce, for every , a field of cohomological -dimension and a Galois module such that contains classes which are not -trivial. The module is a quotient of the permutation module on the affine hyperplanes of an elementary abelian -group, arising as a quotient of the absolute Galois group of . We also describe -trivial classes as sums of corestrictions of cup products involving a Kummer class.
