Source abstract

Abstract Although stochastic resonance (SR) phenomena are ubiquitous across various complex systems, the influence mechanisms of higher-order interactions remain elusive. Here, we investigate SR in coupled phase oscillators with three-body interactions on ring networks. The system features periodic modulation of three-body coupling strength and additive noise. Our analysis reveals that periodic modulation of three-body coupling creates time-varying potential wells that alternately become shallow and deep, enabling novel noise-enhanced processing mechanisms. Using signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and mean response amplitude as complementary metrics, we find characteristic resonance peaks at intermediate noise levels, with stronger driving and lower frequencies enhancing the resonance effect. Weaker pairwise coupling amplifies resonance effects, while moderate network connectivity appears optimal compared to extensive connections. Our findings characterize network SR (NSR) under higher-order interactions and suggest design strategies for noise-enhanced signal processing.
