The number of right ideals of codimension n n of the ring of noncommutative polynomials in two variables over the finite field F q \mathbb F _q is a polynomial q q -analogue of the n n -th Catalan number. A generalization involving a q q -analogue of Fuß-Catalan numbers holds for more variables. We discuss also a few aspects of right congruences over a free monoid.
