Have you ever used AI in your math classes, and/or school and academic activities? It is known that AI in Education has emerged as a driving factor in transforming thoughts. The objective is to identify whether AI has influenced the teaching and learning processes of mathematics in basic education, based on statements from teachers in the Brazilian public education network. A qualitative case study research is presented, with exploratory purposes, aiming to gain knowledge about the use of AI in school and academic activities. It was identified in the data analysis that the teachers responding to the electronic questionnaire were unaware of AI and its contributions to teaching. But it is clear that they are curious about the topic, and refer to AI, but commonly, as a “simulator of human intelligence”. Thus, it is concluded that the discussion on the topic is relevant, and webinars, workshops and thematic mini-courses are proposed, elucidating the importance of a fruitful debate around ethical reflections that highlight the potential use of AI in school and academic spaces.
