Source abstract

Let ff be a monic polynomial of degree nn with integer coefficients. We use Fourier analysis to prove a new upper bound on the number of n×nn\times n matrices with characteristic polynomial ff and integer entries in [−T,T][-T,T], as T→∞T\to \infty. The implied constant in our bound only depends on nn and is otherwise uniform in ff. Our bound improves on recent work of Habegger, Ostafe and Shparlinski for n≥4n\geq 4.
