Source abstract

Let QQ be an rr-graph on qq vertices and let α>1\alpha>1. The (α,Q)(\alpha,Q)-spectral radius λα,Q(H)\lambda_{\alpha,Q}(\mathcal{H}) of an rr-graph H\mathcal{H} is defined as the maximum value of the QQ-Lagrangian polynomial over all vectors with unit α\alpha-norm. Given a family F\mathcal{F} of rr-graphs, the (α,Q\alpha, Q)-spectral Turán number spex⁡α(n,Q,F)\operatorname{spex}_\alpha(n, Q, \mathcal{F}) of F\mathcal{F} is the maximum (α,Q)(\alpha,Q) spectral radius λα,Q(H)\lambda_{\alpha, Q}(\mathcal{H}) among all nn-vertex F\mathcal{F}-free rr-graphs H\mathcal{H}. This spectral parameter provides a spectral counterpart of the generalized Turán problem and contains many classical spectral extremal problems as special cases. In this paper, we first prove that for any α>1\alpha>1 and every 22-covered rr-graph QQ with q≤ℓq\le \ell vertices, the complete balanced ℓ\ell-partite rr-graph Tℓ,nrT_{\ell,n}^r uniquely maximizes λα,Q(H)\lambda_{\alpha,Q}(\mathcal{H}) among all nn-vertex ℓ\ell-partite rr-graphs. Based on this result and spectral stability theorems, we further determine the exact value of spex⁡α(n,Q,HFr)\operatorname{spex}_\alpha(n,Q,H_F^r) for all sufficiently large nn, where HFrH_F^r stands for the expansion of an edge-critical graph FF with chromatic number ℓ+1\ell+1. As corollaries, we obtain several Turán-type results for graphs and rr-graphs, including spectral bounds for the clique spectral radius of FF-free graphs and the α\alpha-spectral radius of HFrH_{F}^r-free rr-graphs, where FF is an edge-critical graph.
