Nearpod-Supported Play-Based Learning for Adult Mathematical Literacy

Many adults enter education with gaps in basic mathematics and low confidence in working with numbers. Research shows that adults learn mathematics more effectively when learning is practical, visual, and closely connected to everyday decisions. Digital tools are increasingly encouraged in adult education when they support learning without increasing anxiety. This paper examines how Nearpod, an interactive learning platform, can support play-based activities for adult mathematical literacy in formal and non-formal learning settings. A PRISMA-guided review identified 28 studies related to adult literacy, numeracy, digital learning, and Nearpod-supported instruction. The findings indicate that adult learners benefit from low-pressure tasks, visual and interactive support, real-life numeracy contexts, and activities that encourage exploration and repeated practice. Based on the review, the paper proposes a Nearpod-supported play-based framework for adult mathematical literacy and provides practical guidance for designing engaging, confidence-building numeracy lessons.
