This study analyzes the impact of the use of the PhET interactive simulator on the development of mathematical competencies in 5th-grade secondary school students at Ramón Emilio Jiménez High School, located in Santo Domingo Este, Dominican Republic, during the 2024–2025 academic year. The research was conducted under a quantitative approach, using a quasi-experimental design with control and experimental groups, applying pretests and posttests to assess academic performance. The sample consisted of 140 students, complemented by a Likert-scale survey administered to students and semi-structured interviews with teachers. The results show significant improvements in the experimental group compared to the control group, particularly in conceptual understanding, logical reasoning, and problem-solving skills. Additionally, an increase in student motivation and participation was observed, along with pedagogical benefits associated with the use of the simulator. However, limitations related to technological availability and teacher training were also identified. It is concluded that the PhET simulator is an effective teaching tool that, when properly integrated, promotes the development of mathematical competencies at the secondary education level.
