Dunn and Serrin [Arch. Rational Mech. Anal., 88 (1985), pp. 95–133] proposed the interstitial working term and modified the system of compressible fluids based on the Korteweg theory of capillarity. This term was introduced to overcome a difficulty; the higher-order terms of density are not compatible with the classical theory of thermodynamics. In this paper the existence of local solutions to the above system in the multidimensional case are discussed.
