Source abstract
A proper coloring of vertices of a graph is called -frugal if no color appears more than times in the neighborhood of any vertex of . While -frugal coloring coincides with -distance coloring, we study -frugal colorings of planar graphs with maximum degree and , respectively. We prove that every planar graph with maximum degree admits a -frugal coloring with colors, while a planar graph with maximum degree admits a -frugal coloring with colors. The results present variations of parts of the famous Wegner's conjecture, which for planar graphs with maximum degree states that their -distance chromatic number is at most .
