Source abstract

This paper presents a series of compressive tests on concrete cylinders in order to develop a stress–strain model for concrete under axial compressive load. A mathematical model representing the entire range of concrete behaviour under axial compressive stress is developed, generating the ascending and descending portions of the stress–strain curve of the concrete. The main parameter needed to generate the model is the peak compressive strength of the concrete. Complete stress–strain relationships for unconfined normal, light-weight and high-strength concrete are also predicted. The proposed model is based on analysis of the stress–strain curve and one single experimentally determined parameter. Comparison was made with actual test data and some other available models. The comparison indicates excellent prediction of stress–strain behaviour of the specimens.
