Source abstract

For a graph GG, denote its domination number and independent domination number by γ(G)\gamma(G) and i(G)i(G). For a positive integer kk, a subset S⊆V(G)S \subseteq V(G) is a kk-independent set of GG if Δ(G[S])<k\Delta(G[S]) \lt k. The kk-independence number αk(G)\alpha_{k}(G) is the cardinality of a maximum kk-independent set of GG. In this paper, we prove that for any nontrivial tree TT, i(T)≤k+12kαk(T)i(T) \leq \frac{k+1}{2k} \alpha_{k}(T) and γ(T)≤k2k−1αk(T)\gamma(T) \leq \frac{k}{2k-1} \alpha_{k}(T), respectively. This extends the recent result for k=2k = 2 by Dehgardi et al. Both bounds are best possible and the extremal trees are characterized.
