Source abstract

This paper shows a teaching proposal on squaring both polygons and curvilinear plane figures. The learning path, designed for and implemented with secondary school students, was also proposed to university students, future secondary school mathematics teachers. The whole activity is designed in the Technological, Pedagogical and Content Knowledge framework (TPACK) together with the Mathematical Laboratory with the aim to allow students to experiment the researcher’s role. Students are invited to use both paper and pencil and a technological tool (GeoGebra). In the paper we present the learning path and give some highlights on the experimentation with University students showing that collaboration among students, manipulating technological tools and under the wise orchestration of the teacher, was winning in the construction of the not trivial mathematical content, resulting in the effectiveness of a GeoGebra-supported mathematical laboratory, designed within a TPACK framework.
